Clannad (Anime) add (All reviews)
Jul 13, 2016
I thought Clannad was the dreadful broccoli that preceded my ice cream desert.
I watched Clannad purely to get to the After Story. Because of this, I was genuinely surprised by this anime.

Story 4/10:

The plot is one of the weak points of Clannad. It extensively stretches out character development into long arcs and then slaps on some comic relief and supernatural scenes. In the end, the developers finally take two or three episodes actually confirming the relationship between Tomoya and (spoiler).

Art 7/10:

When I first saw the art, I was horrified by everyone's eyes. The pupils were huge and the eyes were drooping to the sides; the artwork made it hard for me to take this anime seriously. However, after two or three episodes, I had already become used to what I had once found repulsive.

Sound 7/10:

There's nothing much to really say about this. The sound fit well into the show, and the ending-scene music was pretty decent, if not a little melodramatic.

Character 5/10:

The characters are average. Sometimes they are purely devices for drama, which makes me think: why are you here?

Enjoyment 7/10:

I actually enjoyed this show. It wasn't great, but it definitely wasn't bad either. I liked the comedy for the most part.

Overall 7/10:

I don't know why, but I think this anime deserves an overall of 7. It's really about as good as Golden Time, or some other romcom like that. I do however, like the uniqueness of Clannad's genre.

Now that I finished both this show and my first review, I'm pumped for Afterstory!
