Shigatsu is with the top-rated romance animes on MAL and with reasons for this. In resume: The show was awesome, certainly don't deserve a 10 as it can become a little hard to finish since the story moves a bit slowly and the flashbacks cut the tension of the moment or are too long. However there is many original aspects such as how the romance is developed or the style of the music involved.
Story:
How I've said before it begins slowly, but it gradually becomes a heavy drama. The idea of having a prodigy that was abused by his mom isn't original.
About the romance I was expecting the boy fall in love with a girl that he couldn't reach for any reason, however Your Lie In April presents a new way to introduce and develop a romance.
About the story of Arima, it is very common and overly explored, there are some fashbacks that are unnecessary, making the show harder to finish.
Art:
Amazing, 2D work is gorgeous, I almost never see this quality of animation (just look at Kaory's hair). The 3D is little used but only in the correct moments.
Sound:
It was a risk move to choose classic music to develop the plot, but very well played. The way that it was showed got me interested in it.
The oppengings and endings are fantastic, my favorites until now.
Characters:
Arima is nothing special, he's strong and with a slow mind. Tsubaki is well developed, with a slow mind too, but she is just like a normal person with her qualities and problems. To compensate we have Kaory, a gorgeous and eccentric girl, extremely strong who anyone would fall in love with due to her attitudes and maybe her personality.
Aiza Nagi... I consider a fanservice for loli fans since she is so annoying and have minimum impact in the story. In conclusion the characters are great, they all have qualities and problems like anyone else
Overall:
This show made me cry like a bitch...
It can be hard to finish but I guarantee, it's worth. This show easily became one of my favorite animes due to your originality in the story and development. Highly recommended to watch till the end!!!
