this is a spoiler-free review, so with that in mind, feel at ease to proceed without fear of stumbling upon, well, spoilers. i’ve kept my sentiments brief, and if you don’t like mile-long or professional reviews, you’re at the right place boi!1!

when i started watching it, i honestly didn’t expect that i'd be interested enough to keep on watching, much less enjoy it. first of all, i’m not too big on slice-of-life genres. sure, there are exceptions like hyouka (which just so happens to be one of my favourite animes), but on the whole, they’re really just not my thing. i find it hard to finish those kinds of anime, and the reason for it can be simply boiled down to one sentence: i’m more of a guts, blood, and gore type of person.

getting back to what i think of this show …

i loved it, i really did --not going to lie, the kumikoxreina scenes helped seal the deal. the animation was unsurprisingly spectacular, and the storyline simple but so .. honest (sorry, i can’t come up with something better, im tired AF) in its execution. there’s something about the characters and their interactions that really drew me in, and, the slight moe factor aside, the show has a genuine sense of realism to it that you’d be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. i’m still in awe of how fleshed-out and nuanced the characters were, and if you’d like a show with three-dimensional beings with distinct personalities, you’ve found it. thinking about it, kyoani could have added an exciting spin to the whole premise, but i’m actually glad for its simplicity.
