With thrilling action, quirky characters, and a bit of zany comedy, Bungou Stray Dogs is a great mix of excitement and hilarity.

[I must note that a second season will be airing in the Fall, so my thoughts here are based on the fact that the story will have a continuation.]

For the story, I'm unsure what to think of it. With what we got, it's simply different groups of organizations at each other's throats because they have their own ideals. Now, that's good and all, I don't really mind it, but I have this feeling that there should be something that gives us the "big picture" behind everything. If so, it just hasn't happened yet. What I will praise the show for is the writing. There's this odd mixture of seriousness and wacky comedy that somehow blends pretty well. I personally enjoy it, and believe it's what makes the show unique.

The best aspect of the show is the characters. We get a whole cast of personalities, and they all have enough time in the spotlight to where we can get a good read on them. And that last statement was an unintentional pun, as I should point out that the characters are all based on well-known authors. Even though a lot of these names I'm not familiar with, this is what drew me into the series. And what's great is there's more to them than their names; they shine when they need to and interact with each other nicely.

This was another series this season that did well with keeping up on the animation. Rarely did I see any flaws, and if so, they were probably so small I didn't realize. The animation also helps emphasize the comedy portions as the style and the character models change to match the mood. If it wasn't for that, I think the comedy wouldn't have gone over that well.

As I said, the thing that interest me was how the characters were depicting real-life authors. Yet I'm glad that wasn't the only thing that the series had going for it. It also makes we want to have a look at the original works these authors have written. Bungou Stray Dogs was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and it makes me excited for the second season (which, by the way, was announced before this season aired).
