Mixed Feelings
Rushed and wasted potential, that is Charlotte in a nutshell. You might be thinking what do you mean by "wasted potential" well i mean that they literally wasted serveral episodes. Basically nothing happens in the first half of the anime. The only thing of some importance that happens in those episodes is Tomori's backstory. Thats it! You might as well skip all those episodes.

I mentioned that the show was rushed and i mean it. Almost every conflict in this entire show is solved in just one episode. If you watch episode 7 you will definetely understand what i am trying to say here.

Now wikipedia states that Jun Maeda (the creator of this anime along with, Angel Beats, Kanon, Clannad and many others) "narrowed down the number of main characters compared to Angel Beats" Well i can tell you that is complete utter bullshit! It was true in the first half of the show but not in the second half were they just kept introducing new characters. Doesn't Jun learn from his mistakes?

Another big problem with this show is the story. The story is all over the place! In fact there is no real story, Charlotte feels more like a supernatrual slice of life anime. There are smaller stories here and there but they aren't really connected. It is basically just messy and it really frustrated me.

All that being said Charlotte does have some redeeming qualities. For instance i loved how the MC changed. He went from being a total asshole to becoming a caring and loving person. Another good thing about this show is Nao Tomori. She is a really interesting and cool character. The great thing about her is that she has so many different sides to her. In one moment she is acting like a little girl and in another moment she is acting like a complete psychopath. I honestly really loved her character and it was also really heartwarming to see how she started opening up to the MC as more time passed.

The animation and the music in Charlotte was really good and the more i listened to the OP song the more i liked it. I also liked the fact that they paid attention to details, I don't think i saw a faceless person in the backround even once in this anime.

So whats the conclusion? While Charlotte isn't a bad anime it is certainly not a good one. This is a shame since it could have been Angel Beats 2.0. If you are a huuuuuuge fan of Key or Jun Maeda then i suggest you check it out. However if you are unfamiliar with Key and Jun Maeda then i recommend that you watch something else.
