If you want a basic idea on what the style of the story is, think the detail of Death Note's constant subconscious thinking of what the character is thinking and planning, pulling out some genius scheme on the spot- set in medieval times lined around merchanting, and the "god" being a cute girl who happens to be a wolf deity that is just as cunning as the protagonist.

If you like a simple storyline, that often than not has an underlying plot glistening in the dark, then this is for you. There's not much of twists, and it's pretty straightforward in most cases. The constantly changing relationship between the deity, Horo, and the main character, Lawrence, is many a times humorous, where they constantly argue with each other in one scene, and having a good time in the next. They're able to show an extraordinary capability as a dynamic duo, and the possible romance that blossoms over times is tear-inducing as it builds throughout the story.

The art style was done carefully and beautifully, you won't be disappointed when you see how well the artist drew both the people and nature. Each character, especially the main characters, have a more unique quality to them, and promises that you'll never forget a face.

It also has one of the most... is different the word? opening and ending songs, shocking you at first with how it is played, only to lead to full enjoyment of it afterwards. The ending song especially has a exquisite jingle to it, making you want to hum it afterwards. The opening song, however, is... beautiful. It's a remix of the actual song, but it was done in such a way that I immediately fell in love with it after listening to it a few times. Despite my constant "fast-forwarding" to get to the storyline, I would always listen to the opening scene just for that song. Enough said?

Overall, this is one of those animes that come under appreciated, and will not disappoint you in watching it. The second season is even better, so be prepared to enjoy much, much more once you finish the greatness, that is Spice and Wolf.
