This anime is the epitomy of what it means to put together heartbreaking concepts and emotion triggering events in order to bring the most out of the viewer's despair. But for me a least, sad anime can play out beautifully and if done correctly, they are the best kind.

Plastic Memories is set in a world where humans are blessed with humanoid companions who are fully capable of the same feelings And thoughts as you and I. They are brought into familles and are there as life long friends for those out there who feel lonely. Hence why these robots are called Giftias: they are a gift to the people's lives that they impact. But of course, there is a catch as good things usually have one. The company who makes these robots are obviously corrupt since they made expiration dates for all these humanoids. The worse part is they have a department to forcibly take back expired "Giftias". Imagine if a company shows up to retrieve someone you loved because they have expired and all their memories of you are wiped clean. The ironic part of all this is they have Giftias retreive expired Giftias, as if it wasn't sad enough already.

Now Plastic Memories is about an 18year old boy who finds himself working for that department who has the unpleasant job of retrieving expired Giftias. His name is Mizugaki, Tsukasa. He is partnered up with the ever so beautiful Isla, a Giftia that is capable of a different type of thinking than all the rest. Since this is a romance, drama anime you can truly guess what happens in the episodes.

Story: 8/10 I said it's predictable but it's not unenjoyable. Despite being kind of aware what happens in the end, it doesn't stop you from continuing. It gives a little background story of the characters and the concept of the entire thing is pretty original. However it felt very rushed or more like I wish I was able to see more episodes so that the plot could be more detailed. The scenes are beautiful and there are tear jerking moments, but with an anime set up like this, are you really surprised that it's sad?

Characters: 8/10 Isla's character is beautiful and she is just the cutest. She isn't the most capable but she wants to be. What I like about her most is the sympathy she has for the clients when they're doing the job. I think that there could be improvements for the other characters but they aren't annoying. I wish characters could experience more growth, likes it's there but wish there was more.

Art: 10/10 STUNNING GRAPHICS. I loved how everything was drawn, and would watch any anime if it had artwork comparable to this one.

Sounds: 7/10 I remember I liked the opening but not much about the sound was memorable to me. It was just okay and the voice actors were nice.

Overall: 8/10 I feel like this anime had a lot of potential but it could have been done better. It's concepts were refreshing and there is something to be taken away after watching this anime. It gives hope and comfort if you have ever lost someone.
