I really liked the first season of Black Lagoon - it was the mature, gritty, animated version of an R-rated action thriller movie with an awesome female character in Revy. Overall, Black Lagoon Season 1 was really good but I felt had some pacing issues that sometimes made me nod off a little until the narrative and action picked back up again. Additionally, a couple of the stories in that season weren't as fun and energetic as others.

However, all of that is addressed in The Second Barrage. It's everything a great sequel is: bigger, better, and more of it! One of the things I really enjoyed about this season is its clear focus on Revy and Rock. We also get to understand Revy and Rock on a more personal level as well as delving deeper into the motivations of characters from the first season like the icy Balalaika and some interesting newcomers.

The stories keep the action going at a nonstop pace and never overstay their welcome (an issue I felt happened sometimes in the first season) and you really want to see what happens next. This season really had a hold on me and I simply couldn't wait to see what the next episode brought. The only thing I could say is "wrong" with The Second Barrage is I felt it was a little too short at 12 episodes. Perhaps, 16 episodes would've been perfect but I'm okay with a show maintaining brevity and ending on a high note instead of endlessly dragging out with filler episodes (an all too common occurrence in anime). I really think you'll love this show!
