In short: Yes I agree that YOLO but how about I agonise over my feelings a little longer?

Friend, do you feel like you haven’t been crying enough lately? Well this is the medicine for you.

It’s a classic romantic set-up: quasi-orphan piano-prodigy meets manic-pixie violin-prodigy. Let’s listen to a bunch of classical music while Kousei, Kaori and their musically gifted friends construct and detonate a complex love polygon.

Toot toot and all aboard the HMS DRAMA because what we have here are the mandatory prerequisites for a beautiful and traumatic voyage. Romance, check. Mental illness, check. Physical illness, check. Struggling deal with disappointment and the tenuousness of human life, check. Kimi Uso will becalm you in a sea of feelings and that’s exactly what you signed up for so get the tissues and set sail baby.

*However*.

As a person who doesn’t enjoy watching children being beaten, parts of this show were what we call in the old country “HOT DIGGITY DAMN NOT OK”. And I’m not just talking about the super upsetting stage-mother flashbacks (heads up). Can we add ‘children emoting by slapping or hitting each other’ to the list of tropes that need to get in the sea? Yeah thanks. It goes without saying that MPDG is also on that list but I’m going to let it slide just this once.

I am still going to recommend you get your romance fill from Kimi Uso. It’s neatly contained, carried by classical music and complex teen-feelings. Plus a good long cry is great for your complexion.
