Mixed Feelings
The only reason this is even getting a 5 is because I am taking in factors like art and sound, which, are absolutely fabulous. But short of butchering the story and character, I am not sure what to say about it. I have heard from Fate fans that Stay Night is better than Zero, mostly shallow and downright stupid comments like how Shirou was able to realize what is right and wrong from the beginning, the portrayal of conflict was the center interest, and not what the viewer think of it as right and wrong, with wrong being that it somehow bad.

Enough of F/Z, moving on to this show. It tried to be deep and clever and drown everything in monotonous monologs of Shirou and just barely keeps your attention with flashy fight scene and soundtracks. Some of the characters are heavily underdeveloped as compared to the anime predecessor despite having lesser characters to work with. Nothing much was done with Saber, she walks around for a little while and then goes away. Rin just, she's like a three-dimensional tsundere, she wants to kill Shirou but not want to kill him because of extremely undeveloped reason, then becomes attracted to him.

Shirou is a goody two shoes but is secretly edgy because he has altruism, which comes to a point of contention later but is so absurd in its development as he thinks what he do isn't right because while he is stopping evil, he is doing evil even though by stopping evil he technically just stopped evil so..??? He was five years old when the event happened so how could he have possibly even comprehend what he could have done for others or even feel bad that he had survived when others didn't? He is also lacking personality, it seems to be that his whole character just encompasses of him being altruistic and bland.

Plot isn't as deceptive as Fate Zero is, nor is it straightforward. So, somehow it just revolves around Shirou than a Battle Royale and somehow fails to develop him to a satisfying level.

Overall. It wasn't something that was extremely bad but it sure as hell did not live up to the shit that everyone was hyping up. Also, the VN? Don't even try it. It's boring as hell.
