Mixed Feelings
I usually don't leave reviews, but my god, I couldn't let this go without one. This anime had a good concept to work with, and it's completely ruined by poor character development and cheesy dialogue.

Story (5/10):
The first initial episodes were great, as it set up Shinichi's newfound conflict and the curious musings of parasyte Reiko Tamura. Her mysterious interest in Shinichi, combined with his gradual transformations, draws you in as a viewer. Once her story arc ceases, however, it becomes the mediocre story of a boy getting chased by an alien. The story also leaves several loose ends unresolved, such as Kana's ability to sense parasytes, the investigator's suspicion of Shinichi, the group of parasytes enraged by MIgi's failed inhabitation of his brain, Reiko's baby . . . it's as if they wanted to add complexity to the story but fell short by leaving these subplots unfinished.

Character Development (2/10):
Shinichi's character is not the brooding, deep character in existential crisis that some may have you believe. His internal and external dialogue are so forced to make him appear complex, that it feels as if you are being hit over the head with a hammer by the writers. His love triangle counterparts (Murano and Kana) lack any depth aside from fawning over him and giving the series a subplot. Reiko is the only mildly interesting character due to her evolution into becoming human-like and questioning her purpose as a parasyte.

Art (8/10):
There is nothing wrong with the art in this series. It's not bad and is quite decent.

Sound (5/10):
Anytime Shinichi launched into a droning monologue about the existence of mankind, this terribly sappy theme music began to play and ruined any hope of me taking his words seriously.

Overall (6/10):
Don't waste your time trying to finish Parasyte. It fails to achieve the level of hype it created in shallow character development, unfinished subplots, poor dialogue, and an unsuccessful attempt at exploring the niche of mankind.
