An anime with two strong female individuals as the protagonists?! I must be dreaming, right? Nope. Just Kill la Kill saving anime. Studio Trigger must have thrown everything they did well with Gurren Lagann in a blender, added deep feminist undertones and flashy outfits, and created Kill la Kill. I'm still in conflict with myself over whether or not the "fan service" can really be considered "fan service". The story started out decent, but I felt like the first 14 episodes were more suitbale for an anime that spanned over more than the usual 20-25 episode anime. However, a HUGE plot twist- (one that I personally didn't see coming whatsoever) -moved the story along to the climax extremely quickly. It was like BOOM. However, the sudden change in plot felt a bit rushed, which felt weird, judging by how it was a PLOT TWIST, something that usually should come unexpectedly. The series nonstop action met my standards, and left me twirling scissors around my finger in art class quite a bit. The transformation scenes were enjoyable most of the time, but felt a bit repetitive further into the show. The music and soundtrack was freaking AMAZING. My heart beat fast to the pace of another amazing score and soundtrack by Hiroyuki Sawano. The "Elite Four" supporting characters added a nice touch to Satsuki's seemingly bland character. The show did a nice job portraying the backstory of each Elite Four member, however, I felt that Nonon was left with the least background story compared to the other three. Ryuuko is by far my favorite anime character to date, as she showed that the girls in anime aren't just there to maintain the male protagonist's sense of sexuality. Also, I enjoyed the connection between Junketsu and Ryuuko. Overall, I give Kill la Kill a 9 out of 10.
As a side note, I strongly recomend the subbed version, as the dub is just awful in my opinion.
