If you were to describe this show with two words, it would definitely be either "car crash" or "train wreck", for it is a truly dreadful scenario that you can't stop looking at (for some odd reason).

By combining the very popular (and cheerful) themes of sadism, masochism, misogyny, slavery and rape in the worst possible manner, this thing makes Twilight (hell, even Fifty Shades of Grey!) seem like a masterpiece. Although the genre is labelled as "shoujo", this giant mess can't really decide who it's aimed at, and what emotions it wants to evoke. While its few fans may praise it for combining "horror", "eeriness", and "creepiness", the reality is that the only feeling this thing can evoke from viewers who still have their sanity is undoubtedly disgust. From the endless slurping sounds to the sexual innuendos and rape references to the story (or lack of) in general, you will spend your time wondering as to
1) Why did I ever start watching this crap?
2) Will it ever get better?

While there may be no viable answer for the first question, I can guarantee you that this show never gets better, develops a plot, or even has a logical ending that will explain the little bits of "mystery" that may have kept you watching till the end.

As if that wasn't enough, the characters are completely unlikeable and unrelatable, with every single one of the vampires being evil and sadistic and the protagonist being truly pathetic (maybe they kept saying that she was totally worthless and nicknamed her Little Bitch for a reason). Unsurprisingly, all your hope for character and plot development will also quickly die away, for as soon as you start thinking that one of the vampires will do something different, they always prove you wrong and continue to
1) bite the girl
2) hear her protesting (quite pathetically) for 2 seconds, and
3) proceed to tell her to shut up.

This experience is enhanced with the slurping and licking sounds mentioned above, as well as an extremely generic OST which sounds like a cheap ripoff from Yuki Kajiura.

Like most people who got into this mess, you may probably think that this anime does have a single redeeming quality - its art. While that may appear to be true initially, you will eventually realize that there is no point in watching a story that combines such great art with such horrible execution (and actually kills off some of your brain cells in the process).

Overall, this is an appalling show to watch and should be avoided like the plague. However, if you do decide to watch "Diabolik Lovers" (or "Rape Race", as I like to call it), be warned that you will not even be able to feel pity for the useless main character or the sadistic supporting ones. The only people to pity here are those who had to provide their voices for this crap as well as those who had to endure all of its faults while watching it.

PS: You've been warned. Here's to 3 hours of your life that you'll never get back.
