After watching Kimi ni Todoke I like to think of this anime as a Jane Austen style romance. The slow growing relationship between the male and female protagonists is heartwarming, old fashioned and requires time to blossom. This anime takes patience and it is well rewarded.

When checking out reviews I often quickly read small portions so I'll say the most important bit first. If you are a fan of romance, comedy, school, shoujo or josei there's a good chance that you'll enjoy Kimi ni Todoke. In my opinion you don't need to be a veteran of these genres either. I am relatively new to the world of romance anime and I extremely enjoyed Kimi ni Todoke. This anime also has a live action adaptation which I found helped ease the, 'what am I to do with my life now' feeling after completing an awesome series. To keep from writing any spoilers about the ending I will only say that it is written extremely well though I do recommend watching season two for a proper sense of story completion.

The plot itself is nothing overly complicated. It has similarities to other stories in the shoujo/romance genre but I thought it was unique in it's own way. I found myself emotionally invested in the story. I've never had an anime make me teary eyed and then full of joy until I watched Kimi ni Todoke.

You'll find yourself rooting for the characters. The friendships that develop are outstanding and were by far my favorite part of this anime. The majority of the main characters are extremely likable. Kuronuma is refreshing as the female lead though you may find yourself frustrated with her at times. The same goes for the male lead, Kazehaya. You come to understand just how much they have in common as the story gives you both of their perspectives. This anime does a brilliant job at conveying the emotions of the characters which in turn involves the audience.

The art was superbly done and some scenes were downright beautiful. I am a bit of a snob when it comes to the art, I like anime's that look realistic, colorful and lovely without that extreme cartoony style. Overall the music was enjoyable and the scene music fit perfectly. I especially liked the opening songs for both seasons. This is one you don't skip over the openings or endings.

All in all I'm glad I decided to watch Kimi ni Todoke. There's so much anime to choose from and this is one that should be chosen. It will give you that warm feeling in your heart and leave you a little bit happier with the world.
