Ghost Hunt is an unusual anime because with a title like "ghost hunt" you might think this anime will be like Bleach or Kekkaishi where when then characters fight ghost it's an explosive rumble with swords and monsters and, while this anime does have a lot of action in it, it's a thought provoking mystery at it's core, not just an adrenaline fix like those previously mentioned anime.

Story 10/10

I love a good crime drama and that's what this feels like to me. The anime is divided into a series of arcs and within each arc the characters solve a different mystery by gathering clues, doing research, narrowing the suspect pool, and finding evidence. Each arc usually ends with Kazuya (or Naru) revealing to the others who the ghost is and what it wants. As the mystery drags on, I get more invested in it so by time Naru reveals the ghost's identity I'm usually pretty excited and I even gasp sometimes.

Plus, I also love Science Fiction so whenever the characters start using technical jargon like when they talk about what kind of curse this is or when a character like Takigawa performs an exorcism I just think that's so cool.

Characters 8/10

My favorite character is Mai because she's the only one who isn't afraid to speak her mind around Naru. Plus, since she isn't a professional investigator like the others, she always screams and reacts like a normal person in her situation would which makes her very relatable. Furthermore, as the series went on, I learned more about Mai and liked her even more to the point I almost cried at the last line she said at the series finale.

Naru is also a great character because he's like the Sherlock Holmes of ghost hunting. He's so smart and intelligent that it amazes me and I love how he puts all the clues together at the end to reveal who the ghost is. However, Naru is also a self centered jerk that thinks everyone should do what he says without question. It's a good thing Mai's around to put him down!

As for the other characters like John, Lin, and Ayako we never really learn much about them. They each get a little character development and there are all awesome during the action scenes, but I feel like Naru and Mai were really the anime's only two main characters. Maybe if the anime was longer they could have given the other characters more attention I guess.

Overall 9/10

Ghost Hunt is a very unique anime that blends SciFi and mystery together perfectly. With a great story and memorable characters, I highly recommend this anime.
