Grimgar is the most underrated anime I have ever seen. It has great visuals, great sounds, the story progresses smoothly, the characters are relatable and consistent, and great fight scenes. The show takes place in some sort of Fantasy-RPG-esque world in which every single character seemingly has no memories of the "real" world. Our group of heroes is made up of a small clique of rejects failing to make the cut of a number of stronger, more competent groups. Hence the story delves into a shounen-esque setting for our characters to develop.
This show is one of the more underrated shows out there. Although I can see why the show might be getting so much hate.
As of the end of the 12th episode, I believe the ratings are not representative of all 12 episode, and rather representative of the first 3-4 episodes. For one, it is very slow paced(as earlier mentioned, the show is set like a shounen, but it is only 12 episodes long atm). Unlike other fantasy-rpg shows, the characters don't seem to have a primary goal (since for the entirely of the first season, the characters have some sort of retrograde amnesia regarding the "real" world), instead the show addresses conflict in 2-3 episode arcs (gintama style) in which the conflict is solved from start to end.
