I found the combination of the beautiful art style and slow pacing of Grimgar intensely relaxing. The characters themselves don't even know much about themselves at the beginning of the series so getting to know them as they get to know each other as well as themselves was a rewarding experience.

Critiques of the first season would all be focused on the final 2 episodes. The stakes at the end of the season never felt terribly dire even though, by this point, you are well aware that they are. The fight scenes were above average for the majority of the season but fell off in the final 2 episodes. I definitely could have felt more concerned and the characters definitely could have been cooler towards the end, especially Haru.

All in all I thoroughly enjoyed the season and would recommend the show. Each character was unique and interesting and I genuinely cared about them. I just wish in the final 2 episodes the director would have made me feel more.
