4?! A 4/10 you say?! Isn't that a bit generous considering the content?
Well, if you understand my rating system, I usually give a 4 to anime that are bad, but in all the right ways. You know how "The Room" and "Birdemic" and "Cool Cat Saves the Kids" are famous for being terrible movies, but are beloved for being so bad? "Mars of Destruction" is in the same vein in my opinion. Oh, it's bad. It's REALLY bad. But it's so DELICIOUSLY bad.
Anime like "Master of Martial Hearts" and "Pupa" were awful because they made me question people's sanity and ability to create likable content. They were awful through and through. There was never a silver lining and never even a moment when I enjoyed what I was viewing. "Mars of Destruction" was awful but I savored and loved every moment of it. It made me question "why?", but I also laughed. I laughed hard. I thought I would get a six pack more in the twenty minutes from watching "Mars of Destruction" instead of a forty minute core workout.
Seriously, this stuff is hilarious. It's the perfect thing to watch when you're a couple of drinks in and have a friend over and you need to laugh your butts off for twenty minutes.
Everything from the lack of an original thought, to the infamous head explosion scene, to the absolutely amateur-sounding "baby's first fandub" voice acting, to the "twist" ending, is a roller coaster of horribleness. It's Mr. Bones' Wild Ride that's going to make you sick, but it's still worth it.
I would recommend it to the following people:
-Anyone who is creating content right now. Whether it be writing a book, a screenplay, or heck, even a manga; I would recommend this to you so you can see how not to write a story.
-For those people, like me, whose favorite comedy is unintentional comedy. If you enjoy films like "The Room" and "Birdemic", you will most likely enjoy this puppy, too.
-For anyone who is genuinely curious. You interested in seeing an objectively bad anime? Give it a try. I think a lot of people forget what something being "bad" means. There's a difference between disliking an anime and addressing if something is low quality. For example, I don't like "Bleach". I don't like it, but I'm not going to call it the worst anime ever solely because I wasn't a fan of it. I can still see that it contains quality and passion, even if I couldn't give a hoot about it. "Mars of Destruction's" quality is non-existent, therefore it's appropriate of being called "the worst thing ever".
I personally don't find it to be the worst thing ever. "Mars of Destruction" is just way too entertaining. Maybe I am being too generous, but I don't really care. I would get another ticket for Mr. Bones' Wild Ride.
