First off, I am not going to rely on anything akin to spoilers. The closest I will get is with the following statement:

If you become invested at all in this anime (w/o having read the manga), there will be an episode (or 2) that will infuriate you. This is because at that point, the mostly fantastically executed storytelling gets thrown out the window. Once it hits the ground, it is then eaten by a dog, excreted into a garden, and then end result is some sad looking daffodils come spring. In the end, your expectations for a visually satisfying bouquet that harkens spring ends up being a couple of sad little straggly flowers, but nonetheless, they have some appeal and bring a little happiness.

That said, I cannot imagine that you will not enjoy this anime. Though the story seems to leave a fair number of things left unanswered, it sticks somewhat stubbornly to its main theme and that is made clear in the last episode. So, though you may like to know certain things, it seems to me that, ultimately, fleshing those out wouldn't have added much and would have diluted the central message of the story. It may make some important things come across as illogically convenient plot devices, but that really doesn't matter if you keep your eye on the story that they are intending to tell.

The art was pretty good, but I can't stand the fact that all of the adult female characters have strangely fat lips, like they all get botox or whatever from the same doctor...It is a bit distracting.

I can honestly say that I liked all of the characters but one. Watch the show and you'll know who I mean and why. It's not because of who they are, though, it's because how they are used in the story - it's simply lame.

The opening theme is killer (haha no pun intended) and the ending is an ok song, mostly catchy because it starts out in 3/4 time, which is unusual. The sound work throughout the show doesn't stand out - if even there at all, because I really didn't notice. I think there is a quietness to the show that I appreciated, in retrospect.

Watch it - you've seen worse animes that go on longer and have given you less enjoyment. This is an easy 12-episode watch that will mostly leave you happy that you did.
