I think that I can honestly say that Ponyo is my favorite Miyazaki movie. For some reason, I never really liked Spirited Away or Kiki's Delivery Service, but I thought this was great. Maybe it's because it's the first of his films that I saw in the theater? Anyway, Ponyo is a movie that was made to make you smile and give you a warm fuzzy feeling. Oh, and also to show off Studio Ghibli's fantastic animation. The movie opens with all kinds of crazy ocean wildlife swimming about. I can't help but think that they're just rubbing it in people's faces, though the animation is crazy-amazing. The first part of the movie is about Sasuke, voiced by the bonus Jonas, finding Ponyo, a small toddler voiced by Hannah Montana's little sister (even though she mostly just yells "HAM!"), and his everyday life. The second part starts out with the entire town getting flooded. Sasuke and Ponyo go on a boat to find Sasuke's mother. Sasuke must then save the world by proving his for Ponyo in the ultimate test of love. A lady asks if he loves Ponyo. Then Sasuke says yes. Then the world is saved. When Disney dubs a Ghibli movie, they DUB A GHIBLI MOVIE. Just like every other Miyazaki licenced by Disney, Ponyo has a bunch of stars do the voice acting and and turns out to be a fantastic dub (for the most part). Ponyo can really be described with one word: fantastic. This is definitely one movie you want to see in the theaters instead of waiting for it to come out on DVD.
