Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo, is a contender to be one of the best animes of winter 2016. After deciding to watch it about 7/8 weeks into the season I was greeted with a great anime with pretty much all the elements I could have wanted from Fantasy and Comedy genre anime.

Story 6/10

I'm going to start by saying that I thought the story is the weakest part for me. This is mainly because even though there is a overarching story of what two of the characters want to do (Aqua and Satou) there is very little progression towards their goal. Instead its more of a story of their daily lives within this new world that their are moved into and adapting to it. This new world even though it's a fantasy world, it does obviously takes parts from game ideas such as the idea of leveling up, being in a guild, doing quests etc. This isn't to say that each story in the episodes are bad, far from it. I thought they were honestly really good but it just feels like there was no real progression to their overall goal which brings it down to me.

Art+Sound 8/10

Decided to put these two categories together as there isn't really much I want to say about them and I gave them both an 8. The art style looks good, colourful, nothing I would consider wrong with it but just isn't anything that is unique or that stands out about it. The sound assets within the episodes seem good as well, nothing really stood out as being out of place for a sound effect. The opening song in my opinion is good enough to where I didn't skip it, but its not something I would add to a playlist to listen to beyond the anime. The closing song I actually really loved, something about it just felt really nice and calming about it. Maybe its the countryside vibe I get from listening to it that I enjoyed.

Characters 10/10

This right here is what I loved about this anime. The characters. We basically have 4 main characters in this anime which gets built up over the episodes.

First of all, we got Satou who is the only male main character. He is someone who enjoyed playing games before moving over to the fantasy and now is willing to become an adventurer. The main asset he has over the others is that he is smart (or at least smarter than the other 3 mains), which he does use to his advantage at times. Due to him being made out as the smart one and usually following his point of view you get to understand his frustrations, relieves and joys over the series which makes him to be a likeable character.

Secondly, we have Aqua who is a goddess that let Satou to decide to move over into the fantasy world so he could have a new life and come along with him. She is very selfish, stubborn, isn't as intelligent as she thinks she is and is poor with money. Due to her actions you'll find yourself enjoying the bad moments that come to her as you feel like it is karma that has come back to get her in a way. Which in part brings in some of the comedy of the anime as well as her interactions with other people.

Next there is Megumin. Who is obsessed with a particular magic type. Due to her obsession with this, she also comes across as stubborn (you'll see a small theme here). As you understand how powerful she can be, you also get to understand that her obsession doesn't always help people around her. Like with Aqua the comedy moments come with her interactions with other over her magic.

Finally, there is Darkness. She is the least stubborn of the main 3 female characters. However, she does have the strong urge to get into harms way partly due to a sense of duty but mostly because she loves having eyes on her as she tries to absorb enemy attacks that may damage and lose pieces of her armor (not in an ecchi way like other anime). From which you see her having a sense of thrill from it which makes creates the comedy part of her character.

Overall, the 4 characters have a great dynamic with each other that creates most of the funny and comedy moments of the anime as Satou has to deal with the stubbornness of the other 3 while trying to use his head to keep they egos in check.

Enjoyment 9/10

Personally, I really enjoyed the anime so that when I started watching the anime I would watch multiple episodes together. Each episode didn't feel to drag on, in fact I would say the opposite and that the episodes were over too quickly! I feel like I want more of the same from this anime and bit sad that there is only 10 episodes in total. But seemingly there looks like there is a 2nd season in the pipeline already so might not have to wait too long before it is back.

Overall 9/10

As I always say, I score anime subjectively. Which is basically, how much did I enjoy it, would I watch it again and do I want more? If you read this review hopefully it has come across that I have enjoyed the anime immensely, even despite of what I think of the story progression. It is anime I will come back to watch again in the future and I can't wait for more to come out when the 2nd season is here.
