How to make a love story getting more and more complicated? Nisekoi

For a head start, I never read its manga so I will not be comparing the anime and its manga. This review should be based on the anime itself only.

Story: 6

Well, the story itself isn't original but not too bad. We have our male protagonist (Raku) having a promise with his childhood friend (an unknown girl). 10 years later as a teenager, he had forgotten how she looked like and the only thing he knew is the girl has a key which can unlock the pendant given. The story goes on with Raku trying to find clues about this promised girl, while being swarmed with a lot of problems.

Art: 8

If you know Shaft you should expect better quality in art and animation. I will not be writing too much in this section.

Sound: 8

OPs (both sung by ClariS, the "old" one) and EDs (sung by VA themselves) are nice so just go ahead and grab them. I personally don't pay too much attention on the OST since they are pretty common in romcom series (and hence easily forgotten).

Character: 7

#TeamOnodera or #TeamChitoge?

Raku is the typical dense male protagonist who is always caring to his friends. Kosaki (or Onodera) is the typical nice and very shy girl and Chitoge (or Kirisaki) is the typical bossy girl with some good (yet hidden) personalities. While it seems like Onodera has the upper hand in terms of (almost) everything, Chitoge improves a lot throughout the series and is able to compete with Onodera to win Raku's heart.

Not going to tell you who will win, of course :P

Regarding side characters, Tsugumi and Marika are pretty much redundant in this series to be honest. Maiko (Raku's friend) and Ruri (Kosaki's friend) are the supportive duo who always try to find chances to get Raku and Kosaki together.

PS: I haven't sided towards any "teams" since I have yet to finish Nisekoi season 2.

Enjoyment: 8

I personally enjoy the series in terms of harem and comedy, but as a romance series I just don't feel like there is "enough" romance here. Most of the romantic scenes end up with issues e.g. someone is going to confess after hiding his/her feelings for a long time but suddenly "something" happens and interrupts the confession (derp).

This is probably how the manga plot goes so the issue is with the plot itself.

Overall: 8

In short, the series is enjoyable (albeit with a few fan service scenes). I will give a score of 8 out of 10.

This is NOT relevant or important but is still bugging me: Why did the community name #TeamOnodera and #TeamChitoge instead of standardising their first/last names? (i.e Kosaki/Chitoge or Onodera/Kirisaki) :|
