First Review, Be Harsh!

Naruto the Last is the 7th and final movie of Naruto:Shippuden. It is the first movie to officially be a part of the canon universe however it is a change from the traditionally action-set pace of the previous movies. As such, one could not recommend this film to action-seekers as it is more suited to Naruto fans and romance-seekers.

Objectively, this movie is absolutely awful, the characters are one-dimensional with the main heroine trailing behind the protagonist for the majority of the film. The plot is bland, cliched and predictable with massive plot-holes and story jumps leaving the audience wondering what happened and the action or lack of action is laughable for a movie listed under the Genre "Action."

However, for anyone who has seen or read Naruto and the majority of Naruto:Shippuden, this movie could be considered one of the greatest works of art of the entire series. It exhibits the maturation of the main cast (Konoha 11) and of the extended cast (Konoha) which no movie or episode had previously displayed.

Plot: (2/10) [Major Spoilers]
As stated before, the plot of the film was garbage. The main villain was for some reason looking to marry Hinata and Naruto being Naruto tried to stop him. The plot was so convoluted that they ended up using an exposition dummy mid-way through the film to attempt to explain the various story jumps. As this is a romance story and not an action story, the main villain ended up abandoning his evil schemes and became a good guy and went to live in isolation. That's it. The whole plot in two sentences.

One of the major plot motifs used was a scarf, in particular a red scarf alluding to the Red String of Fate belief with Naruto reminiscing about 3 separate occasions (as a child, as a Genin and the conclusion to the Pain arc) where either he or Hinata tried to express their love for each other. Whilst this must've originally been used to strengthen the relationship between Naruto and Hinata, it is quite hard to say that it doesn't detract from this relationship as it was not fate or destiny that brought them together, it was the constant and undying love from Hinata to Naruto that resulted in this.

Art: (7/10)
Not much to say. On-point for the majority of the film.

Sound: (10/10)
The soundtrack was extremely well done and deserves extensive praise. "Hoshi no Utsuwa" by Sukima Switch was stellar as the ED theme and is comparable to the ED theme "if" by Kana Nishino in the Naruto:Shippuden Movie 4 The Lost Tower as they both exemplified and complimented their respective films. The ED theme also amplified the imagery used in the mid-credit stills.

Overall: (9/10)
With the scores given above, it would be questionable to assign this movie any score above 7/10 however whilst the majority of the film was used to forward and conclude the relationship between Naruto and Hinata, it exceled at this. It would not be incorrect to state that the climax of the film is not the resolution of the conflict but the mid-credit scenes depicting the marriage between Naruto and Hinata and to an extension, the post-credits scene depicting a peaceful Konoha with Naruto and Hinata becoming parents. It evokes powerful emotions which impact the audience as they realise that the story of Naruto:Shippuden has finally reached its conclusion as all of the obstacles have finally been cleared and all of the conflicts have been resolved.

Prior to this film, there were only 2 animes which have successfully elicited tears from this reviewer, Clannad AS and Anohana. With the addition of this film, the sum total has risen to 3. If nothing else, I implore you to check out the credits and post-credits of the film as they truly deserve a 10/10.

tl;dr this is not an action film so dont complain about the lack of action
