Reading reviews can be oh so depressing. Too many negative nancies trying to be far too clever for their own good.

Bakemonogatari is a psychological anime secretly hiding underneath a mystical/supernatural anime.

It follows Araragi, a young boy with psychological defects who meets many girls with psychological defects.

Through a number of highly stylised events represented as supernatural occurrences the characters work through their psychological defects and become more well-rounded better people. Araragi takes centre stage as the character who "helps" the many girls of his harem work through their psychological problems. Most people seem to miss the point, and it's sad that this intelligent method of story telling is passed over.

The show is generally self aware and utilises jokes and standard tropes to add lightness and humour to what would otherwise be a pretty dark and hard to watch piece of subject matter.

This concoction could have easily been a miss, but they nailed the ratio correctly to create a winning formula. In combination with a very unique and fast paced art style the anime is a definitive must-watch.

TL;DR: Fun intelligent harem anime providing psychological mental health dilemmas in a supernatural way. Very dialogue focused.
