To my surprise this anime was way better than I had expected. How to make an awesome anime, you need:
- 1 superb cool protagonist with astonishing skills
- two dozen pair of boobs and booties
- 5 spoons of comedic value
- 1 spoon of exaggeratedness that leaves you cringing sometimes (oh god Isshiki-senpai)
- 1 tsundere heroine
- a bunch of enemies and allys with distinctive features and skills
- a bit of awesomeness
- and just a tiny pinch of ecchiness, oh fk, the whole pervy container fell in
the pot
- a disgusting tasting feature that methaphorically rapes your taste buds
- and of course the obligatory potato, because internet

Now let it simmer slowly until it gets smooth and mellow.

Each and every episode of this epitome of food porn anime is magnificent. Watching it leaves you drooling waterfalls over this out-of-this-world looking food.
Never ever watch it while you're hungry or you will suffer like I did. To be honest, after watching the karaage (friend chicken) episode I could not help but eating nuggets until I finally made my own karaage.

Other than the food art the foodgasm moments were depicted highly creative, even featuring fighting scenes using their cooking utensils.
Soma and his knife reminds me of Ichigo and his Zangetsu (Bleach).

The cook-offs are extremely tension filled and are accompanied by their matching musical piece.
It contains laughter, emotions, goosebump, char development and fits everyone's taste. Absolutely enjoyable and I recommend it to every anime lover who likes cooking or food (who doesn't like food).

The explanation of the cooking methods and effects sound very profound.
I have to say though that it kinda got boring in the last 2 episodes because each of them were formidable cooks and hearing the judges explain the awesomeness of 10 dishes one after another is kinda dragging. Also how did they shove in so much food but whatever. You don't wet yourself and come while tasting food either. Reality aside, it's entertaining value outshines the irrationality.

As for myself, who considers himself a hobby cook, the presented dishes just make you want to recreate them and you can learn a thing or two by watching Shokugeki, an educaitonal plus.

Minus points could be the predictable outcomes of the battles. But my inner flambé fire burns in anticipation of the 2nd season where the elites will clash with each other. And as already mentioned the explanations of the dishes, which are detailed for main characters and shallow for others.

Btw there are enough in-depth recipes on how to cook all the meals shown in the anime if you're interested. Just google.
