Chihayafuru is a rare gem among all sports anime I have watched. More so, it significantly mixes a lot of overarching themes that genuinely tell a simple story in a refreshing manner.

The story in Chihayafuru somehow materialize a typical straightforward sports anime plot. In doing so, I can see strings of development among the characters as they try to engage in pursuing the classic beauty of the traditional Japanese game called Karuta. While Karuta is not necessarily considered as a formal sport, it follows that the pursuit to professionalism is exactly the main point of the series.

The main characters are very interesting in this story. As such can be considered because a big influence of the series is the relationship triangle that forms between the three main characters. Yes, a relationship triangle. Not a love triangle. I considered it as such because it can be depicted that the main conflict of the series is the interaction of our main characters as they fall in love with Karuta. This is profoundly expressed by the help of flashback moments in the past.

On the contrary, It can't be denied that there are some sweet and cute moments that are shared together with our main characters which definitely makes you continue moving on the the next episode.

One thing I like about Chihayafuru is that it gives me a chance to appreciate the entirety of Karuta. Its literary composition and classical nature gives a solemn beauty that makes me feel serene yet inexplicably intense.

With this, I can say that the enduring tale of Karuta, the endearing artful characters, and the warm realistic story line threads together a beautiful tale about the pursuit of excellence while traversing along the path of connecting with people.

All told, It's a good watch.

For a note, Chihayafuru is meant to have a second season. So, don't expect the completion of the conflict in the matter by the end of the series. Nevertheless, its still a good ending. Moreover, one will feel rewarded if they continue on to the second season.
