They apparently tried to give very abstract emotions with colors and music. At the first there was places that are funny but later it got incredibly slow paced and emotional which did not affect me at all because I found some of the characters incredibly passive (Arima) or assertive (Kaori) which made me annoyed. So after 15th episode I was watching just to finish the anime.
Especially after one point the anime started to repeat itself by bringing the same issue and the same scenes over and over again which got me bored. Like Arima's issues with his mother and later his relationship with Kaori were repeated just too much.
I also felt like the characters of Tsubaki and Watari were undervalued. The story should have given more strength.
