Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry starts with a typical harem-y school battle setting, making it rather similar to the other school battle anime airing this season; Gakusen Toshi Asterisk.

The theme and setting of this anime is rather generic and has been seen since quite a long time ago. In my opinion, this anime is rather 'shonen-y' with quite a bit of harem elements. However, the battle scenes are what made me hooked to watch the anime until the last episode.

The characters in Rakudai are pretty much stereotypical archetypes; a 'weakest guy', a red-haired tsundere girl, and a clingy little sister. However, as typical the characters can get, the relationships between the characters, especially between the two main protagonists, are rather interesting, delving into depths which are quite uncommon in this kind of anime.

The anime is certainly not one of the most lavishly drawn and animated, yet there is a certain sort of beauty in the artwork. Soundtrack isn't a focal point in this anime, but I do find the OP and ED quite pleasant to hear.

However, Rakudai is a proof that not all things generic are bad. As much as I saw lots of overused and tired elements in the story, the execution of the plot is indeed what makes this anime shine to me, making this anime enjoyable to watch.
