Parasyte the maxim is an anime that shocked us all when it came out. This was because of the fact the Parasyte manga was released in 1988 and that an anime adaption comes out in 2014.Parasyte is a science fiction horror anime that is overall an excellent experience. But first I want to start with some flaws, one was that some of the characters just feel underdeveloped and hallow,of course this doesn't apply to all characters but I feel Murano, the main love interest of the story, was kind of lack luster not bad but underwhelming. Same can go for a couple of other characters.Another gripe would be the fact that not enough background was given about the parasites themselves.I mean come one there the main flagship of the series, however I still found the parasites to be very interesting.Well other than those few nit picks I have so many good things to say about this series. I would like to start with the animation. The animation is sleek, polished and the parasites look awesome. The main reason these parasites look so good is that the entire design of them is meant to be grotesque but in a way, beautiful. The story was outstanding,I got fully invested into the story I wanted to know what was going to happen next and it had me on edge the entire way through. Most brilliantly of all is how they integrated action into this anime and the action had a unique flair because of the parasites. The voice acting was on point but the best part of the sound of the anime is the music, the opening, ending, and the music that played throughout the show was brilliant.it sounded soft, happy, fast, sad, and emotional depending on the scene. The characters,as I said earlier I found some of the side characters tone underwhelming. However Reiko Tamura was an excellent side character. But the two main characters are where it's at though, Migi and Izumi Shinichi were both brilliant, deep and relatable characters in there own rights. They both supplied some excellent examples of internal conflict. One final thing is the philosophical questions about species and some really great themes present throughout the anime. In conclusion I truly loved this anime,It was touching, dramatic, dark, action packed, and intriguing all at the same time. This is a great example of the alien invasion trope done brilliantly and I reccomend this to fans of Tokyo ghoul, science fiction, body horror,or alien invasions it's definitely worth it.
