Unlike most reviews I'm not going to go into depth on the content of the series or why I rated it the way I did.

Grisaia no Kajitsu is a very good anime. It's emotional, intense, cute, funny, all while building a great sense of character depth. The main reason that people dislike this anime is because A) They've played the visual novel or B) The story is lacking. To combat scenario A, its only natural that the Visual Novel is a more complete telling of the story. I do believe that the Anime did a good job in catching the spirit of it, even if it did make it into a PGish version. If you have played the Visual Novel, you're enjoyment of this may be dampened because you will understand all the details that are left out and that serve to change the main points of the series. Watching the anime first, then playing the VN is perfectly fine and you will enjoy it.

To scenario B, it's true that the story isn't the greatest. The main appeal of this series is the backstories and characters that the anime builds itself around. It doesn't have a strong central story but the back stories are solid and done very well. They produce many emotions in the audience including grief, happiness, and just that feeling that only moe can bring.

In Conclusion, I'm mostly writing this review for the people that haven't played the VN. I want them to give this anime a chance because it has great characters and an even better art style. If you're a big fan of story, this may not be the anime for you. I enjoyed this anime but was discouraged before deciding to watch it by all the negative reviews that it got. I just wanted to show that the reasons for the opposition may not apply to the general audience.
