I find the whole concept of "Chuunibyou" to be fascinating and well worth designing an entire narrative around. While most adults I know pine for an imaginary time in their youth when they were happy and/or cool (whenever they 'peaked', I guess), some of us look back on huge swathes of our history with very un-rose colored glasses. Shudder. Cringe at how earnest and unselfconscious we were. What I mean to say is were DEEPLY strange and existed in worlds unto ourselves.

This show celebrates that weirdness, and argues how it is necessary to shed past selves, even if this is process is sad. It also suggests hope that one might maintain some of the 'magic' inside, even if our outward personas need be buttoned up, because, adulthood or whatever.

My only criticism is that the show maybe could have pushed the 'magic' further, made more 'battle' sequences, etc. Though maybe the glimpses are so moving and powerful and funny because they are far between.
