Story 10:
Ahh, the story of Shinsekai Yori, From the New World. This story was one of exciting ups and downs that kept me viewing out of curiosity alone. I do know that keeping curiosity does not constitute a 10/10 for plot, but I will justify my decision further. First of all I would like to mention the story's excellent use of foreshadowing throughout the story. The foreshadowing offers the viewer a chance to see into future events without being so incredibly overt that the following events would be obvious. (I would mention specific examples, but I am actively avoiding spoiling the story for the readers). To expand on the previous idea I would like to mention that the story is not predictable (sorry to anyone who finds that statement redundant), but it's unpredictability doesn't come from left field, introducing a random new rule to the world's rules that completely throws you through a loop with it's absurdity. This is what I truly love about Shinsekai Yori, it keeps you on edge, catches you off guard and continues to do so while obeying it's own established rules. If you enjoy a flavorless anime that gives you the plot on a platter then this show is not for you (I'm looking at you nearly every harem).
Art 8:
Sadly, this show is not perfect, and I would have to say that its art is this show's only flawed product. On average the art looked spectacular (Especially their hats.) The colors were vivid when necessary, dark when necessary, and delivered a smooth overall product. There were, tragically so, some points when the art seemed inconsistent in quality with the rest of the show. This means some of the character designs seemed off or sloppy, backgrounds were sometimes blurry, but don't let these little details scare you off from the show's colorful world.
Sound 10:
The sound was another lovely part of this show. The first ending was catchy, and I found myself actually sticking around to listen to it at the end of every episode (Which I rarely do). The second ending (While still good), did not worm its way into my ear like the first one did. The show; however, did not have an opening which disappointing and rewarding. I found this rewarding because it allowing the show (without interruption) to get into the meat of what was happening. The show's sound also did very well (paired with the art) to set up the required ambiance. Some creepy chilling music paired with the dark atmosphere actually sent chills down my spine as I watched (That's later in the show).
Character 10:
The characters managed to stand out as individuals each one acting individually of each other, with different reactions to each situation making them seem as if they were individual people rather than just a homogeneous group (Which sometimes happens). Each character standing out making you care about them, hate them, and even think they are a pussy. As you watch them interact with each other and the environment.
Enjoyment 10:
Obviously, based on the endless praise I have given this show throughout the review. This show is re-watchable you watch the first time and experience the twist and turns and then you re-watch and see the little things you missed (such as the aforementioned foreshadowing) there are always new experiences waiting for me when I decide I have the time to go back and visit the world of Shinsekai Yori. I hope you enjoyed the review.
