You can take this anime more serious and watch it, because it's great story - yeah. Hinata with the dream to win, be as good as him idol and even better. He don't want to lose.
That's simple - "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."
As he said - until ball is in game, you didn't lose.
This anime is best motivation to do something what you want so much. It giving the power, the power when everything is possible.
"It's true that I'm not very tall. However! I can jump!" - even you're bad in one thing, it showing that you can be better in something other than anyone and get better than him.
You don't need to like volleyball to watch this anime, it's very simple and meanwhile showing basic stuff which helping you understand everything.
In conclusion, my english is bad and maybe it's not helpful, but story/art is great, soundtracks are probably one from my favourites in all animes i watched, characters are soooooo good, which making you enjoyed and overall is one from best animes.
If you will watch first season, you'll fast start to the second one.
