Cross Game is a really refreshing anime. Rather than being simply a sports show, or simply a slice-of-life and romance show, it has a nice mix of a few different genres. Everything about the series is down to earth. The show revolves around the two main characters, Kou and Aoba (who are quite entertaining, in my opinion), but everyone has their moment in the limelight, and there's thorough character development for even the initially inconsequential characters. Although the show can be a bit slow-paced, perhaps too homely and believable, there hasn't been a show that hooked me so easily and kept me interested in a while. Don't get distracted by what you "expect" the show to be because of expectations from other anime. Give it its' fair shot, and I think you'll find that Cross Game is worth a try.
