What can I say about that anime... It's first time when I heard about anime with cooking as main topic.
Suprisingly Shokugeki no Soma was very good, story was completely understandable and clear, but there were some cliches which sometimes destroys a climate in every anime that is over average.
Visualy Shokugeki no Soma was outstanding. Characters, backgrounds and the most important - food - were drawn perfect. In fact watching some dishes made me hungry! Special effects and colouring style were also very good. Animation was smooth and dynamic.
Soundtrack was also nicely done. Matching speed and intensity of music to action on screen - it's something that all series should have and Shokugeki no Soma showed it in a perfect way. Opening and ending themes were catchy and well animated with lively colours and special effects.
Characters... our MC had his moments but I've seen better creations of "almost badass" and "almost unbeatable" heroes. I like Soma because of his weird sense of humor and his "the best of the worst" dishes! His attitude to friends and foes was also ok but sometimes... Well, sometimes he's dumb as hell... Other haracters were made very good - I mean better than our main protagonist. They were lively, realistic and very funny and serious when they need.
Then why I gave SnS only 7/10 if I liked it this much? Because weak end. C'mon, it was disapointing and predictable. It's a big mistake to make show like this so good at the start to completely ruin the end. I think I would see 2nd season if some day it will come out but I don't think I'll re-watch this one.
Few words of recomendation: If you are intrested into cooking, good and original slice of life anime or just curious what contains anime about fighting with flavors then you should watch Shokugeki no Soma as soon as possible, but if you don't like cooking or slice of life anime then you just should pass it out.
