The ART is amazing. The crudeness of the art is what makes it beautiful. With every episode you are reminded you can see how much love is interwoven in the very fiber of the show. How else can you get a show look this amazing on what appears to be a small budget?
The SOUNDTRACK is amazing. I have a very diverse taste in music, so I like everything from Lil Wayne's ghetto-ass mixtape to Nirvana. I haven't heard a soundtrack this good since Samurai Champloo. If you don't have time to watch the show, just listen to the soundtrack and if it doesn't make you at least curious, then you're a lost cause.
The CHARACTER development is amazing. I fell in love a piece of clothing by the end of the show. And it tears me to pieces knowing I cannot relive this show for the first time. After watching the interactions between Senketsu and Ryuko for over 20 episodes you can't help but get emotionally attached.
Suffice to say, I enjoyed this anime SO much.
I've recommended this anime to countless friends and the ones who make it past episode 7 always finish the show and tell me "WHY ISN'T THIS RATED HIGHER."
A lot of people mention this show as overrated. YOU'RE WRONG. IT IS UNDERRATED. Many people like this show for the very basic reason of fanservice and over-the-top action. While the over-the-top style is part of its charm, its fan service is completely justified and related to the plot and DOES NOT PLAY OUT IN A WAY THAT DEGRADES WOMEN.
Picture every anime with fanservice you've ever seen. Chances are it's a shounen with the main male character eyeing a female character with her response being "YADAAAA" and cue embarrassment which the average teenage male viewer finds attractive because they are young and find confident women embarrassing.
THIS SHOW DOES NOT DO THIS. THIS SHOW EMPOWERS WOMEN EVERYWHERE TO FALL IN LOVE WITH THEIR BODIES AND NOT BE ASHAMED.
As a straight man, or gay, or whatever, shouldn't we promote our young men and women to be confident in their own skin? To love their own bodies and not be embarrassed simply because society tells us to be. We are born naked, unashamed, and when we die we return to that unashamed state. To put it in layman's terms, this means more sex for everyone? When is more sex ever a bad thing, unless you're mormon.
This show is awesome. Watch it. If you don't like it because of the art style and over-the-top action, then I can't fault you as art is always subjective. BUT if you can't enjoy it because of the fan service please ask yourself why? Is it because you are embarrassed? If so I think that is a terrible reason to drop the show.
Give it a shot, open your mind, watch it, love it. Pass it forward. Peace
