Story-This is where the show is at it's peak, the story told in one piece was done well overall, at the start it was very good but slowly went downhill with slow pacing and overused dialogue. The story worked in arcs each island the straw hat crew visited each new arc would arrive. Each island had it's own story ranging between interesting, well throughout story's and some having slow pacing and overused dialogue.
Rarely in the story they would switch from the main plot, they usually keep on focus and don't drift from the main objective. Overall each main character has a simple thing they want to achieve but it comes with heaps of obstacles along the way. This story feels like it could go forever with heaps of things to explore and new mystery coming up along the way. Even though this story is quite predictable it has quite unique plot twists and moments no one saw coming. The pacing at the moment is very slow with around 5 minutes at the start of pure looking back at the last episode.
Filler is not that common in one piece, but when it comes up it is usually quite interesting. The comedy was well done in this story with each crew mate having there own unique personality and having funny and great rivalries. The action in one piece is very intense with moments done so well you will be out of your seat in excitement or in tears from the well wrote out story's with either happy or sad endings. This story does have some rather pointless arcs but that's what makes the good arcs better it always seems to have a satisfying ending. What makes some of these arcs good are the exploration that comes along with it, the parts where they verse the final villain always seems to be the lowest point of an arc but jut watching them walk around and to see how that island works is much more interesting and always finds away to pull you in 9/10.
Art- One piece is known for it's unique art, there are always mixed opinions about it's unique style and it stops some people from watching the show. The old style of one piece went for around 200 episodes and that's when it was at it's best. The style pulled you in and gave you a more creative feel to it. It then became more colorful and it went from a creative feel to a colorful kid show. They overdid the animation with heaps of mistakes and putting no work into it. In the last 100 episodes of one piece they just seemed to of give up on the animation and make it look like a pile of crap. The first art style felt well with one piece but the rest seemed out of place like it was missing some kind of crazy,wacky feel to it. The only time you saw them use CGI animation was in the 6th movie where they did it the whole way through. This felt a bit wrong at first but then it seemed to fit in quite well. The character designs were a bit over the top with some characters looking like they were just there for comedy purposes. One of the greatest things in one piece were that no characters look the same and they all had weird unique appearances. Overall the art started well but then went downhill 5/10.
Sound- The voice actors in one piece are amazing showing heaps of emotion and giving the characters a fell of realism. It felt like most of them fit the role of the characters being the only one who could do them so well. After each 100 episodes you felt the voice actor get better pushing the amount of emotion they could put into each characters voice. The dubbed voices are not to bad, the funimation dub put a lot of effort finding the right people but there still was a lot of room for improvement. The background music was quite good it fitted with the scenes from the anime and it gave you a sense of emotion or excitement at points. Some tracks could make you cry played at the right time and some could take away that level of excitement at points. The OST is not something I would listen to everyday or every week, but maybe now and then I might listen to some of the better tracks in my spare time. The openings were always good especially 1,18,15,17 all get you pumped up and excited for the episode. The first opening we go does get over praised and is overused in the show with around 5 different versions of it. Overall with some notable tracks good voice acting and great openings one piece gets 8/10 in sound.
Character- Most characters gave something away like if they were smart, dumb, very strong or even if they are weak. Every character has a weakness and a strength. Most characters didn't feel like they reacted to situations in a realist way. If someone was dying they wouldn't save them they would kill the enemy who caused the injury. Most reactions were based around revenge leading into some predictable story lines. With so many characters there will always be one you can relate with, making you find that character like another version of yourself. With a series so long and still going the characters grew quite a bit, but they still have a lot more room to grow personality and strength. The characters changed a little but it made such a big difference and they always found different ways to challenge themselves. Most villains seemed to have a strong motive what they would follow. The depth in some of the characters was very shallow with not to much history or much of a back story. The show had a narrator who was boring showing no expression in his voice. This show had so many characters but each one was done so well making it not noticeable how many characters they used. I think that you will remember most of these characters because of there unique personality. Overall each character is done very well and makes the show a lot more interesting. 8/10
Enjoyment- I feel like most people can enjoy this anime a lot, it had great, memorable moments and some amazing scenes. If you can look past the bad animation you will go on a amazing adventure with highs and lows. This show may be childish but has some deep meanings. One piece could be mainstream if people sat down turned on there TV's and gave it a chance. The whole show would not be able to re watch but overall the great moments I would surely sit back and watch. Owning this series would be very difficult and take out a lot of time so I'm sure there a lot of people that would do it but it wouldn't float my boat. This series will always be remembered as the longest and one of the greatest series of all time with 10 years of it still running there is still a lot of time to change some of the issues in this anime like it's animation and unfitting music. The memorable moments will always be in my mind as some of the greatest moments in anime history. 8/10
Overall this is one for the greatest anime of all time. it has memorable characters and great moments. It will always be remembered for all it's pros and if it will fix it's poor animation it will surely get a 10/10. But of course that's wrong so in the end One Piece will get a 8/10
