Shigatsu is one of those anime that are been great and could have been absolutely brilliant but gets held back by minor things that do nothing but kill the mood in the most emotional of scenes. Yes, im talking about he gag humour scenes, which from the beginning of the series sticks out like a sore thumb.

But don't be misguided, Shigatsu is one of the best Slice of Life romance anime i have ever seen. Sure, the story does not go in the obvious direction and delves into a number of side plots which, though necessary for the protagonist's ultimate fate, will leave you somewhat disappointed, it is still very refreshing to watch as long as you dont holding your breath.

But even more than the story, what you should watch this anime for is the art. Trust me, it is absolutely mesmerising. Throw in the superb score and brilliant animation, you just might start to forget about the story and start watching for the visuals. Where all three really shine are the piano and violin playing scenes of Kousei and Kaori.

The characters themselves are not that bad, but most of them (including the female lead) are not given much space to develop. I shall say no more on the subject as i might give away spoilers.

But overall, Shigatsu wa Kimi na Uso is an anime you should be ashamed to ignore.
