The plot is set in a fantasy world that doesn't involve magic or monsters for the most part. Its about guts who joins THE BAND OF THE HAWK. Most of the show is about them helping out the good kingdom against the not so good kingdom and how they grow famous.

Not my cup of tea because I have high standards from watching modern anime but I bet as a viewer in the 90s it didn't look very bad. The colors also had a way of making the anime look dark even in good guy kingdom which is quite fitting

The show has a an opening that really grew on me as every episode it was requesting me to tell it why, WHY WHAT? Also the soundtrack grew on me and made more sense as I watched more and more of the anime.

Guts is angry at the start of the series I guess you could say he was about to go Berserk, he's also the main protagonist. Guts has a giant sword which he swings around all willy nillly and kills shit. Griffith is a more quick fighter almost making guts his opposite. Casca is a tsundere but you know she wants the D. None of the other characters are all that remarkable so I'm not going to spoil their deep personalities.

My favorite part of Berserk is watching guts kill the shit out of everything with his massive sword.
