Wolf Children, a simple family story which includes a tinge of humor and sweet foreshadowing, follows the love of Hana for her children (Ame & Yuki). Although Hana intrigues herself with a mystical wolf man hence the eponymous title, the story is—gently—passive. Consequently, events feel predictable, but actually, the story lacks and active counterpoise (i.e. physical antagonist, plot twist, or any satisfactory tension); Nonetheless, the story maintains a relatable authenticity whether the viewer is a son/daughter, brother/sister, or mother.
While Hana struggles to manage raising wolf children, it is enjoyable and enlightening to watch both blissful siblings grow with contrast. And in harmony, the sprightful score enhances the scenic visuals, as they whisper who the characters are which becomes important later on.
This heartwarming anime presents invaluable life lessons that has changed lives.
