"I've always been your fan!"
"Then, want to come to my place right now?"
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun begins with an awkward confession of love, and then takes the viewer on a roller coaster of comedic genius.
Parodying standard shoujo tropes, Nozaki-kun is a comedic and fluffy story about the titular Nozaki-kun, a famous shoujo manga artist and his misunderstood assistant, Sakura. Through a misunderstood confession, Sakura begins helping Nozaki fill out betas, eventually ending up helping Nozaki come up with story ideas for his shoujo manga, as he is a tall, unromantic deadpan. Along the way we are introduced to a cast of memorable characters that parody standard shoujo tropes.
Mikoshiba is an attractive, red-haired delinquent character that is actually an incredibly shy otaku, affectionately called Mikorin and used as the model for Nozaki's heroine, Mamiko. Kashima, nicknamed "The Prince" is your standard ikemen, attracting all of the girls, the difference being that she herself is a girl as well. Many more characters parody common shoujo tropes and all of the characters support the show with their own varieties of side-splitting humor.
This is one of the most hilarious shows I've ever seen, with a cast of extremely memorable characters. The art in the show is very well-done, and often copies the art styles of common shoujo manga, with hilariously well-done facial expressions. The music is incredibly fitting to the different moods and well-done in general. I never skipped the opening while watching this show, and found it to be one of the most catchy and infectious openings I've listened to in anime.
Overall, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is a short, sweet and hilarious anime that is definitely worth watching.
