Kaichou wa Maid-sama! is a masterpiece when it comes to shōjo anime. Being one of my personal favorites for years, I decided to re-watch it and to my surprise, I came to love it even more and bonded more strongly with the characters. What makes this a masterpiece? The two main protagonists. Ayazuwa Misaki is my role model. She is the perfect definition of feminism: strong, independent and hardworking. Her ideal goal is to to have more female students in a recently opted co-ed school Seika High so she's always fighting for equal rights. She's working extra hard to not only support her family but also maintain her role as president of the student council to create a more fitting environment for girls in school, while working part-time at a maid cafe. It's always so refreshing to see a strong female lead on-screen and Misaki's character was the perfect touch. On the other hand, Usui is the perfect man any girl/guy could ask for. He’s smart, caring, incredibly sexy and always makes the best dirty jokes (!!). Did I mention that he's an amazing cook as well? He's perfection. Their relationship was key to success of the anime. Both the characters were mature so there weren't any unwanted whiny/dragged out scenes but instead we get to see a beautiful friendship bloom into love. The entire anime was a perfect combination of comedy, friendship and romance with wonderful characters. Definitely a masterpiece when it comes to shōjo anime.
