Okay, this is my first review so please bear with me...
So Suisei no Gargantia (SnG) was an interesting find. I found it while randomly surfing google for a mecha anime to watch because I was in the mood for giant robots. I found SnG and decided it might be interesting to watch.
At 2am I started it, and I was up till 5 watching this show. The beginning of the show hooked me instantly because I have a thing for shows where the main character is thrown into an unfamiliar setting. I will say that the first three to four episodes were good. They showed promise for a great show, however the thrill of the beginning felt as though it died off as the show progressed. Don't get me wrong I still enjoyed the show as it went along, but the original wow factor it gave me sort of waned off. The ending could have been a little different, but I still enjoyed it regardless.
Technically wise, things could have been done better. I felt the art work could have been cleaner. There were times I looked in the background and I was asking myself why that characters had a weird face. Character wise, I felt they were underdeveloped. I mean the OVA and Specials gave a little more depth, but considering it was only a 13 episode show, I guess character depth was not a major concern. Don't get me wrong, I felt Ledo was a decently developed dude, but people like Amy fell flat for me. I thought Pinion had more depth than she did. Sound was decent, I honestly didn't notice an amazing soundtrack or special sounds.
Overall though, I did enjoy the show. I like stories like this where the main character is thrown into unfamiliar territory. My favorite part of the story was the fact they sort of show Ledo's progression into acclimating with society. He starts off knowing none of the language, but as the show progresses he moves onto broken sentences, and then ends on full conversations. All in all, I think it's an enjoyable show that you would probably like.
