After seeing every episode I feel like I can write a pretty accurate review of One Piece so far. It took me 1 year to catch up to the current episode. I started in April 2014 and caught up April-May 2015 and I have to say I am glad I took my time compared to most people.
The story starts off relatively slow as they introduce the base characters of the crew but it picks up once they've all been established properly. For an anime like this it gets incredibly dark which is what most non-watchers would expect.
The soundtrack is pure 10/10. 90% of the songs are orchestrated beautifully and match the scene perfectly. Not much else to say.
The artwork/animation is top notch with only a few scenes being a bit rushed. People tend to use these scenes as "Toei ruinin muh anime" but it's fine. People should stop complaining about it.
All the Straw Hats are fleshed out well and you know why they're in the crew and how they got there. Many feels to be had.
People usually wonder about the dub of this anime. I have watched both subbed and dubbed of it and I have to say overall that subbed is better purely because the Luffy voice actress in Japanese nails it. All the other voices in the dub (apart from Robin) are equal to the sub version if not better. However the JP voice actress nailed the role perfectly and it can't be competed with.
Overall I have to give it a 10. While it has a few bumpy arcs, the overall story is something you rarely get to experience. Take your time if you do watch it. I know people who powered through it in a month and regretted it. Once you catch up, don't forget to read the manga!
