The concept behind the story was pretty interesting, with mages skirmishing and mysterious events taking place all around the main duo. The plot twists were well-placed and made perfect sense in the grand scheme of things. I also liked the references to Hamlet and The Tempest, as well as their ties to the story as a whole. Overall, the writers did a great job on the story. Ultimately, I don't have anything bad to say in this department.

Story: 9/10

The artstyle was a little underwhelming given the nature of the story, but that could just be my personal taste. The way I would've imagined a story like this, an artstyle similar to the cold, foggy atmosphere of Steins;Gate would've made this anime a solid 9 or even higher in my book. On the other hand, many of the action scenes were bright and exciting to watch. Overall, I'd say that the artstyle was a little above average.

Art: 7/10

The OST itself was also a little less than I would've expected given such a grandiose storyline, but I did find myself watching the first OP every time it came on, which is odd as I usually skip the OP in most anime that I watch. Overall, the soundtrack was fitting, but nothing special.

Soundtrack: 7/10

The characters (or at least the important ones) were well-fleshed out, with out-of-character actions and outbursts carrying great significance in the plot. Some of the character interactions (most notably when Samon and Yoshino were having their battle of wits in front of the the Tree of Exodus) felt weird and out of place, but they were tolerable and didn't really hinder my enjoyment of the show a great deal. If anything, aside from the artstyle, some of the character interactions are probably what held me back from giving this anime a full-on 9 rating. That being said, the development of Mashiro and Yoshino, as well as the circumstances surrounding Aika and her identity were handled extremely well, so many of this show's shortcomings in character interactions are accounted for.

Characters: 7/10

I personally had a great time watching this anime, and would watch again in the future if I had nothing else to watch.

Enjoyment: 8/10

Overall, I gave this show an 8.5/10 since I knew it had the potential to be a 9/10 show, but it did have its shortcomings and setbacks. That being said, it's still a fun show to watch, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's interested.
