Mixed Feelings
First I'd like to say this review is purely my opinion and if you love this show I won't have anything against it, everyone has their preferences. Brynhildr in the Darkness or Gokukoku no Brynhildr is NOT a bad anime by any stretch of the means, it can be very enjoyable at the time. My score may come down to being nitpicky over everything but I just have to give my two cents just this once. I'll start with the good things:

The art style was very good, a lot of the character designs I thought were very good (Apart from Ryouta but I'll get to him.. later.) the music wasn't too great but I didn't feel like I was listening to the same music over and over again, which is good especially for a 13 episode series. Once again this is my first review so it's gonna be very terrible and not very.. professional like. This unfortunately is all I have to say that was particularly good about the show.

I don't know where to begin with the negatives but I'll try explaining the story. The story itself wasn't bad per say but it was more to do with how the story was presented. I've never heard of the manga before watching this show, but after a couple of episodes I started feeling bits were left out or not explained enough, and surely enough I found that 100 chapters have been crammed into 13 episodes.. that's just ridiculous a chunk of information has clearly been left out or rewritten entirely and it shows. I could not get invested at all into the struggles of the characters, especially because the characters held no weight.

So I'm going to say this now I hate Ryouta with a passion, everywhere I read about this show he is labled as a smart male protaganist, but all I see is a bumbling fool who is too stupid to realise that KUROHA NEKO IS KURANEKO (I hope this is not counted as a spoiler because it really shouldn't be, anyone would figure this out just from reading the summary) now I'm no Japanese expert but if you're a genius this should not have been so difficult to figure out. This is even more annoying by the fact that he has photographic memory so he remembers details and he looks exactly like her. My favourite characters in the series were Kogorou and Chisato and they had the least screen time. The anime also tries to pointlessly through nudity about just to keep the viewer interested, I'm a person who is all for fan service but it is done sooo very poorly to the point it hurts. Lastly over the characters I will say Ryouta earned immense bonus points at the end of the extremely rushed anime.

This anime couldn't even get the action to keep me interested because every single fight scene had to involve minutes of talking and flashbacks while the protaganists friends are having enemies trying to kill them with devastating powers, NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR A FLASHBACK YOUR FRIEND WILL DIE. There are also so many moments that could have been avoided if they acted instead of talking and staring at each other!

This anime just was Cliche! the series, I never really took notice of anime tropes until this show shoved them all in my face. The ditzy male protagonist that is not interesting but is still the plot device and hero that all the females fall in love with, anything remotely sexual is said all the characters start blushing like mad rather than saying something rational like any normal human being would. Now there is mild nudity in this anime, I'm not sure whether this was just censoring or how the anime is intended to be even on a blu-ray release or whatever. But when you have girls in bikinis and there's massive cleavage, don't bother taking off the bikini if you're gonna make a shine that covers 10x more than the bikini. It just.. it doesn't work?

I really wish I could go over more because there is so much I have to get off my chest about this anime that jarred me, but any further information would turn out to just be spoilers. Overall this anime is not the worst albeit very frustrating, it wouldn't be something I recommend watching but at the same time you can't really argue for anyone wanting to watch it. If I had not watched as many anime as I have this would probably be a 7/10 at best but that's not the case. So it receives a 5/10 mediocre, average. Nothing new nothing groundbreaking just a heap of the same old stuff we see with any harem ever with a bit of gore.
