Story: (7/10)

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei is about a brother and sister duo that attend a magic academy in their first year, in the year 2095 magic is common and interwoven with science and used in everyday life. The series is split into smaller arcs within the 26 episodes with the first couple of episodes focused on introducing the characters, then moving on to an inter school magic competition and then finally developing a bit at the end using the characters to start on a deeper plot with a small scale war. The ending of the anime suggests that there is more seasons planned after this one as it introduces more characters that are essential to the backstory and development of the main characters.

Characters: (7/10)

The characters are introduced slowly in the first 2/3 of the series and the relationships of the supporting characters are only developed a little bit however it is very heartwarming to see some of the characters warm up to one another, I think the wide cast is introduced well enough that we can enjoy watching all their small antics. There is actually no character development for the main character at all, however as the ending suggests, if more seasons are made for this anime, I think there will be much more interesting development for the two main characters.

Sound: (7/10)

The opening and ending themes didn't strike too special, however it wasn't bad. The music during the anime reminds me a bit of games where if the battle theme starts up, you know stuff is about to get serious and it pumps you up, over all good soundtrack.

Art: (9/10)

The animation was very beautiful and I spent a lot of time watching the characters eyes and the gradients that were used in the art. The Magic sequences and seals were very well drawn. The art style definitely draws you in.

Enjoyment: (9/10)

I managed to watch the entire thing and it didn't feel tedious at all, I actually wish it was longer so that more of the story could be revealed, this needs a second season definitely and they have set the story up in the first season for a second season. There is not much comedy in this however and much of it is just really well drawn action scenes, sometimes it's refreshing to see an overpowered character smash through everything.

Overall: (8/10)

I think there is a lot of potential for the company to make more of this series and continue from the ending, and I'm sure they will. I enjoyed it and didn't find much that I didn't enjoy about it. The lack of character development in the story and the overpowered main character I think will be balanced out later on with more story and a second season, however for now it does drag down the series a bit that Tatsuya does not seem to have any weaknesses or development at all this brings down my overall score a little.
