Grisaia no Kajitsu alternated in between unnecessary fanservice, some ridiculousness and overpowered MC, and a lot of time devoted to each female character's individual backstories. Yuuji is established as a very non-feeling protagonist, and this often made the way he "rescued" each of them from their tragic fates somewhat stereotypical or extreme. It fell into the pitfall of repetition, but since this anime was based off an visual novel game, it makes sense.

Character backstory is very well done? Michiru's was obviously given the most care, and it was the one that made the biggest impact on me.

At the same time, until I caught up with the sequels (Grisaia no Meikyuu and Grisaia no Rakuen), I really was neutral about Yuuji. But for sure, check those out, they've done phenomenally on them.
