A review from a recent anime i watched i'm planning on watching s2 so might as well do a review for s1 and to tell you the truth i thought this was gonna be some garbage even though its from madhouse studios after watching it i couldn't be more wrong it's absolutely great.

Story- Read the synopsis for the story but in short it is a game and sport's anime with drama and other things from the beginning it honestly seemed like a romance but it wasnt. The MC is a female named chihaya she basically becomes friends with a guy named Arata who she warms up to and he shows his love for karuta which is a japanese card game based on poetry and it turns into her passion and she becomes crazed about it. To cut this off, They all go their seprate ways and their future truly begins.

OMG will i tell ya it was a really awesome story there is so much i want to write but i don't wanna spoil. From the story you get at least 2 really great things. One just because you're good doesn't mean you are a pro and it shows true determination and will and the desire to reach your goal but sometimes you just aren't at that point and you need to keep trying. Just a really awesome story you need to watch it for yourself.

Art- Madhouse had their hands on this so me telling you its good wouldn't give it enough justice the art is really great and as for the animation goes definitely really good from the vibrant colours to the sweat art style and animation to the kimono's and traditional Japanese wear i cannot tell you how much i liked it, It was really good.

Sound- Amazing soundtrack definitely goes perfect with the dramatic and thrilling moments when 2 characters are playing a super intense match up of karuta the opening is really damn good and the ending is quite decent as well the impact of the players as they slam the cards the voice acting and basically every minor thing and major thing just go hand in hand to making something just sound good.

Character- You get quite a bit of characters many minor but add to the story and the major ones you see throughout the show, Chihaya is the MC beautiful, passionate, motivated, emotional everything about her fits as a MC and it fits perfect for this anime having a childhood friend who introduces you to something new and continuing with that new thing as your passion just really good, Tachi chihaya's childhood friend at first he comes off as a major jealous, rude and a bully really but as the story goes on you learn why he is kind of like that early on and he later on becomes a really cool dedicated person after giving up on playing serious karuta tries to catch up to the other mc, Arata is that other mc, Quiet and distant at first you learn his story from the anime as well he also gives up on karuta and gets his passion back and starts from scratch after being the best karuta youth in japan as a child, Kanade who later on comes in loves japanese poetry and was fascinated by karuta because the game told poetry she is new and basically she becomes a student while she is mentored by Chihaya and tachi which is a really nice addition as well.

Enjoyment- In the shortest way possible the series is amazing i don't really watch sport's anime but this has given me a new look on sports anime and i think i might give that category in anime a watch.

Overall- 9/10 it is a really deserving series for this score not much else i could tell you, Romance was the reason i wanted to watch this but their is very little or not at all just tiny hints but im glad it took the non romantic route, Just a really good anime that i really enjoyed this is NOT A BIASED REVIEW BTW i just happened to really enjoy this way more than i thought.
