Don't let the pretentiousness fool you. It's a magnificent series, but still has problems here that the top reviews don't address. Hailing the show's plot as deep or insightful is a far stretch. It still has lots of predictability. On top of that, it's dragged out. It's in between the predictable plot developments and cliches that it shines. The relationship that develops between Pino, Lil, and Vince manages to warm your heart despite the shows darkness. And when the trio's friendship is threatened, it put me on edge, because I had the genuine sense they cared for each other and mattered. However, I had qualms with some characters (Vince's unwillingness to face who he was until the very end and Lil's coldness towards a character she may or may not love). It's good, and somewhat ground-breaking, but not genre defining or revolutionary, because I feel like it holds back. It holds back in character development, it holds back in plot development, and it holds back in creating a world I feel for. But the pros outweigh the cons, especially with the art and personality. It is worth watching.
